I DIDN’T BECOME AN ADDICT OVERNIGHT.
I WASN’T BORN AN ADDICT.
I had a successful career, family, and upbringing — and I woke up one day and didn’t recognize the man in the mirror.
I was a stand-out 3-time all-conference NCAA baseball player, an accomplished corporate Vice President, and Nebraska-born Californian, on the outside looking in I was the “All-American Man.” But I was lonely. I was tired, and I felt like a fraud. I didn’t have the courage to tell anyone how I felt and I didn’t know what to do – so I did what MOST men do today – I numbed out. I pretended that everything was okay, I didn’t ask for help, and as a result, I went deeper and deeper into a downward spiral of addiction. In April 2015, I hit rock bottom.
